This is the news page (Duh!). The only news I have right now is that I'm building this web site. It's 78 degrees here in Austin at 10:30 pm on a Thursday night, February 25, 1999. We are in the middle of winter and I think I'm going to take a break and go skinny-dipping in the pool. What about you?
You're all reporters now (Gee,
wouldn't we make Hal Grouver happy), so get out there and get your
stories. And none of this Monica Lewinsky stuff, either. I want good
hard news! And rumors, too! Like I heard that Kay Moffat is having an
affair with Dale Rhoney - hot stuff, like that! Did you know that
Nancy Parmenter is married to a Judge? That ought to keep her out of
jail for a while.
Well, this site has been up for a couple of weeks and no one has
submitted any news. So I'll start it off - Sjon.
FLASH - ROUTE 66 DRIVE IN MOVIE THEATER
TO OPEN IN NEW MEXICO
dateline March 22, 2999 - Edgewood, New Mexico
Wiesbaden Warrior (Class of
1963) Sjon Ueckert is in the process of opening a real 1960's style
Drive-In Movie Theater! Situated in Edgewood, New Mexico (about 25
miles East of Albuquerque, and actually right on old Route 66), this
theater will service the Edgewood, Moriarity, and Estancia Valley,
New Mexico area. The 60,000 plus population of this area will finally
be able to avoid the 50 to 90 mile round trip, all the way to
Albuquerque, just to see a movie. The planned opening is in the
Spring of the year 2000. What a way to bring in the new millenium, by
going back to the sixties. One addition to this drive-in will be a
set of large barbeque pits which will serve ribs, sausage and brisket
at the theater. Ueckert will live in New Mexico during the summer
months to help oversee this operation while spending the cold Winters
down in Austin, Texas developing web and CD-Rom content.

We .
1. Admitted we were powerless over the influence of the Armed Forces, and that our lives
would become more manageable if we simply obeyed orders.
2. Came to believe that the Armed Forces were greater than ourselves and would provide us
with security, even as we traveled the globe as nomads. We believed the Armed Forces
would restore us to sanity &endash; then they blew reveille.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of the Armed Forces, as we
understood it, since resistance was futile.
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves, our closets, our garages,
basements and attics, for while packing, we realized we were sorely over the limit of our
household allowance.
5. Admitted to other Military Brats the exact nature of our frustrations, sense of loss, and
fears, as well as our pride and credo &endash; Duty, Honor, Country, Bratdom &endash; because few others
were interested in listening, and those who were interested could still not understand.
6. Were entirely ready to have the Armed Forces remove our defects of character, lest we be
restricted to quarters or given additional duties by our CO.
7. Humbly asked our fathers, the M.P's, and the lifeguard at the base swimming pool to
forgive our shortcomings, and restore our privileges.
8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, but sometimes didn't care.... or couldn't care
because it was too painful.
9. Wherever possible, we made direct amends to those we had harmed, except when to do so
would injure them or others, or when they could no longer be located because they too had
been reassigned and moved away, or when they had it coming because they were really out
of line. These, we trounced with a loud "HOOaaah!" "All the way!" or "Airborne!"
10. Continued to take personal inventory and held garage sales each spring. Threw out our
few priceless and precious possessions in order that books, furniture, cooking utensils, and
other non-critical materiel would fit into the trunk of the car or could be shipped with the
household goods.
11. Sought through prayer, meditation and bicycle rides across the post to establish and
improve our contact with other Brats, as well as the Armed Forces as we understood it,
praying only for knowledge of our new post, the location of the base snack bar and pool,
and that waiting for us at the teen club, we would find a few old friends from previous
assignments.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of those steps we tried to carry this
message to the civilians, but try as they might they are simply incapable of understanding
us, even as spouses. So we band together to ask questions that no one else hears because
WE are MILITARY BRATS.
Be it ever so true - Sjon
